We are really pleased to announce that Septembers swimmers of the month are Mia Maslen Wollington in Aquabears and Joe Kelly in Seals. Mia swam her first open gala at Epping Forest with some great swims in all her events. This is well deserved following on from her positive attitude in training. Joe Kelly has adjusted well to moving up to a harder group. He continuously pushes himself in training and is really working hard to improve his technique. Congratulations to them both. swimmer of the month - september 2016 - boy september 2016 - girl

Arena 2016 - round 1
Written by Andrew Farrow
Monday, 10 October 2016 07:45
A very exciting, very noisy and closely fought first round of the 2016 Arena League saw positions change dramatically throughout the evening. In the end Hemel finished fifth with only 36 points separating third from eighth. Congratulations to Jack Spence who won both his individual races, and to Jack Christie who won the 100 breast in a new open Club record time. There were 14 other top three finishes, with a special mention to Alice Fender who swam the crucial first event of the evening, the 200 IM, for the first time in an Arena competition and finished third despite swimming up an age group, with a new PB and setting a new age group record; all despite the start being reset five times because of technical problems.

Congratulations to Holly Robinson who was one of the Hertfordshire team in the recent Junior Inter-Couty competition at Luton.  Herts finished third on the night behind Essex and Suffolk, and Holly set two new Club records in her individual events, breaking her own record in the 50 breast, and setting a new record in the 50 back, breaking a record last set in 2009 by almost 2 seconds and becoming the first Hemel 10 yr old girl to swim under 40 seconds long course in the event.

Hemel hosts first 200 fly fest
Written by Andrew Farrow
Sunday, 25 September 2016 11:51
125 swimmers from nine clubs came together at Hemel last night with just one objective - to swim one of the hardest races in the swimmers' repertoire, a 200 fly!  Having just one event in a competition is highly unusual but the 200 fly is all too often the ugly duckling event, at best squeezed in at the end of a competition when swimmers are already tired, and with so few entrants the heats are hopelessly unbalanced, and at worst dropped for lack of interest.

Swimmers from Chesham, CoStA, Harpenden, Hemel, Putteridge, Stevenage, Tring, Watford and Wycombe, many of them swimming the event for the first time, enjoyed some really competitive heats and posted some fast times. Congratulations to Harrison Lees of Watford and Adel Zabrzewski of Chesham who were the fastest boy and girl on the night, and to Sam Gaines who smashed an eight year old Hemel Club record at the distance for 15 yr old boys.

2016 AGM
Written by Andrew Farrow
Wednesday, 13 July 2016 09:21
The Club's 2016 AGM was held on Monday, 11th July.  The minutes of the meeting together with the reports of the Chair and Acting Head Coach may be found here, whilst the Treasurer's report is available on application to the Treasurer.  The year had been dominated by the search for a new Head Coach but an appointment was about to be announced.  Despite this the swimming had been very successful with the best ever performance in Arena League, the most ever Regional Championship qualifying times, and almost 25% of the Club's age group records broken; some having stood for many years.  This could only have been achieved through the significant commitment of the swimmers, coaches and parents in a time of considerable uncertainty. The Club's financial position was reviewed and changes to the fee structure from September 2016 will be communicated to members.

Monday, 20 June 2016 10:20
The second weekend of our 2016 Club Championships saw another 143 PBs or first time swims out of 289 swims, with 34 consideration times and 12 qualifying times for next year's Herts County Championships set or imrpoved.  Three new age group records were set with Mila Brooke ( 7 yr old 25 free) breaking a record which had stood since 2007, Sam Gaines (14 yr old 50 breast) breaking a record set in 2009, and Alice Fender smashing the 15 yr old girls 100 IM record by more than a second.  The evening ended with a thrilling girls medley skins competition which for the first time included a junior competition for under 13's as well as the senior competition.  The senior event was won by Alice Fender who beat off strong challenges from Eleanor Bevan, Keelin McKenna, Shona McKenna, Georgia Purkis and Rebecca Sewell, whilst the junior event was won by the youngest qualifier, Holly Robinson, who saw off challenges from Tilly Beckwith, Freya Beresford, Lois Goad, Millie Herbert and Emily Young; well done to everyone who took part!

Milton Keynes League - round 1
Written by Andrew Farrow
Tuesday, 14 June 2016 08:33
Round 1 of the Milton Keynes junior league saw us travel to Oxford. Having been promoted to division 1 and with a tough task ahead the team were in great spirits. Special mention has to go to the boys 9 yr olds ( Joseph Kelly, Fenner Balch, George Ball and Jackson Mills) who all swam up into the 10yrs and did themselves proud.  Out of 33 individual races, 21 PB's were achieved and we swam a brilliant squadron coming 3rd.  6th place on the night didn't reflect the team's overall performance.  Swimmers of the gala went to brother and sister Joseph and Elizabeth Kelly. mk league may 2016

Sixteen swimmers from Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club represented their club and country at the recent European Masters Swimming Championships 2016. The competition was held in the last week of May on the back of the Elite European Championships and took place at the iconic London Aquatics Centre, home of Olympics 2012. With a raft of personal best times, eight club and three East Region records broken, and with Mike Foskett and Annette Thatcher top of the European rankings for those born in 1952 for their individual events, the championships were a big success for HHSC, not to mention an unforgettable experience. img-20160602-wa0000
