Chilterns League promotion

Congratulations to the Hemel Chilterns League team managed by Lauren Wilding who secured promotion to the first division after a storming performance in the last round with twelve first places, ten second places and twelve "too fast" swims - the latter largely as a result of some significant PBs.

Cambridge Open

A small group of swimmers spent their weekend in Cambridge with some excellent results, winning two golds, five silvers and four bronzes, setting five new age group records and achieving 3 new Regional qualifying times, taking the total number of events at which Hemel swimmers have qualified at this years Regionals to 78, beating the previous record of 76 set last year.

Bishops Stortford open results

30 swimmers competed in the Bishops Stortford Open at Borehamwood over the weekend setting over 50 personal best times from just over a hundred swims with 11 gold medals and 24 second or thirds.  Congratulations to Millie Anderton who achieved her first ever Regional Qualifying time in the 50 back.  At 11, Millie is the youngest of Hemel's twenty-two regional qualifiers to date, and with six weeks of the qualifying window still to go her new QT means that we have equalled the record number of 76 qualifying times set last year.

Chilterns League round 2

A busy weekend of competition saw Hemel field a team for the second round of the Chilterns League whilst at the same time having 30 swimmers in action at the Bishops Stortford Open meet.  Despite this we still managed to finish second in the Chilterns League and as a result will go into the final round second in the division.  There were 15 first places, up from ten in the first round, 10 second or third places, and 15 PBs from 34 individual swims.  Congratulations to all the swimmers who took part and to Team Manager Lauren Wilding for her team selection under very difficult circumstances.

Watford Regional Qualifier

A succesful weekend at Watford Woodside saw 32 first places and over 80 PB's, some coming only weeks since the previous best times had been swum at Counties.  Congratulations to Luke Pestaille for achieving his first ever Regional qualifying times in the 100 and 200 back, and Ashley Coombs who achieved his first Regional qualifying times for the season in the 50 and 100 free.  Thirteen new Club age group records were set by Eleanor Bevan (200 breast) Grace Cawley (200 free), Ashley Coombs (50 free), Alice Fender (200 and 400 free), Max Jelfs (100 free and 200 IM), Shona McKenna (50 free), Georgia Purkis (400 free) and Holly Robinson (50 & 200 back, 100 breast and 200 IM).

Herts Major League round 2 - a close run affair!

Hemel A came third in the second round of Herts Major League despite missing a number of key swimmers, just half a point behind second placed Watford in a thrilling encounter at Borehamwood on Saturday which saw both teams neck and neck throughout the evening behind clear winners CoSTA A.  The B Team swimming in the other gala and having lost a number of their swimmers to the A team came sixth on the night behind five clubs swimming their first teams in what was always going to be a difficult night; further details of individual performances will follow when the information is available.                    herts major a rd 2 2016

Chiltern League success

Congratulations to the Hemel Chilterns League Team which came second in their first round competition at Aylesbury on Saturday night, only missing out on first place by a narrow 5 points.  There were nine first places, 20 second and thirds and an impressive 23 personal best times from 34 swims

Backstroke start ledges

The Club has purchased two of the new Omega backstroke start ledges which will be used at this year's Regional championships and increasingly at other high level competitions.  The ledges are designed to be used in conjunction with the OSB11 starting platforms which means that Hemel is one of the few clubs in Hertfordshire able to install them.  Having the ledges means that our top backstrokers will be able to practice before using them in anger at competitions.

County Championships
There was a strong performance from Hemel swimmers in the Herts County Championships.  Eleanor Bevan won gold in the 50 breast and 200IM, Holly Robinson won gold in the 200 breast and the open boys freestyle relay team of Jack Christie, Matt Sherriff, Tom Sherriff and Jack Spence took gold in the 4 x 50 free relay. Hemel swimmers also won twelve silvers and thirteen bronzes, with 88 other top 8 finishes, 25 new Club records and 113 personal best times.

Counties - weekend 3

The third and final weekend of the 2016 County Championships saw the 400, 800 and 1500m events and a thrilling free and medley relay competition.  Congratulations to the open boys freestyle relay team of Jack Christie, Matt Sherriff, Tom Sherriff and Jack Spence who took gold in the 4 X 50 free relay, to Alice Fender who took silvers in the 400 and 800 free and 400 IM, Eleanor Bevan who took silver in the 400 IM and to Max Jelfs, Georgia Purkis and the 14-15 boys free relay team of Ashley Coombs, Jonny Farrow, Sam Gaines and Max Jelfs who all took bronze.  There were twenty other top eight finishes and twenty PB's with both Alice Fender and Georgia Purkis setting new age group Club records in the 400 and 800 free.

Counties - weekend 2

The second weekend of Counties saw another excellent performance from Hemel swimmers with Eleanor Bevan winning her second gold of the competition in the 50 breast and Holly Robinson winning her first gold in the 200 breast as part of a Hemel clean sweep in the 10-11 yr old category with Grace Cawley winning silver and Elizabeth Kelly bronze.  There were 6 other silvers, 3 other bronzes, 44 other top eight finishes, eight Club records were broken and there were 51 PBs, including two for Mattias Morse which were his first ever Regional qualifying times.

Counties - weekend 1

There was a strong performance from Hemel swimmers at the first weekend of the new look 2016 Herts County Championships where age group finals have been introduced for all 50m and 100m events in line with British Swimming guidelines.  The five sessions saw Hemel win one gold, three silvers and seven bronzes, with 24 other top 8 finishes, 42 personal best times and 12 new Club records.
