With effect from Monday, 24th February, land training for Development, County and Regional Squads will change format and venue, moving from a circuit-based session at Hobbs Hill School to a “functional training studio” using the gym at SportSpace Longdean.
The equipment at the recently refurbished Longdean allows movements from a sport to be mimicked such as working across more than one plane of movement (frontal, lateral and rotational), using multi joint exercises and utilising explosive exercises to maximise performance. Rather than using weights, functional training allows the participant to work against their bodyweight. The functional training rig is supported by a range of cardiovascular equipment such as rowers, treadmills and cross trainers. The sessions will be taken by a personal trainer from Gymspace.
