After 3 weekends and 14 sessions of swimming the 2017 Hertfordshire County Championships have come to a close with some outstanding performances from Hemel swimmers. Particular congratulations to County Champions Jack Christie (50 free) and Alice Fender (800 free) and to Grace Cawley for a fantastic haul of 9 medals – 5 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.  Overall there were 10 gold medals, 23 silvers or bronzes, 15 new age group records and 129 personal best times. counties 2017 c
Grace Cawley delivered the stand out performance of the competition with golds in the 200 IM, 100 and 200 breast, and 200 and 400 free alongside three silvers and a bronze as well as setting three new age group records and bettering her entry time in each of her 18 races! Gold medals were also won by Shona McKenna (100 IM) and the 12-13 girls medley relay team (Milly Anderton, Tilly Beckwith, Millie Herbert and Emily Young) and the girls 14-15 free relay team (Izzie Anderton, Charlotte Hingston, Shona McKenna and Georgia Purkis).

Of the 129 personal best times, special mention must be made of Tilly Beckwith and Elliot Davies who both managed to better their entry times in all of their races.  Finally commiseration to the boys open relay quartet of Jack Christie, Joe Gillam, Josh Gaines and Jack Spence who won silver in both their events, agonisingly losing out on gold by less than a second in both races in a quite fantastic finish to the competition.
