Counties Second Weekend

16/03/20100

Hemel’s swimmers brought home another clutch of medals from the middle weekend of Counties.

Club Captain, Tom Sherriff, swam to joint silver in the 14 years’ 400m freestyle and went on to pick up the bronze for the 200m breaststroke.

Also successful in the 200m breaststroke were Thushira Kumerage, who won the gold in his age group, and Kyle Holmes, who took silver in the age group above.

Paige Wilding was another two-times medallist on Saturday with silver in an exciting 50m breaststroke final and bronze in the 200m backstroke.

Megan Pirrie just missed out on the medals in the 50m breaststroke, coming fourth, but none of her competitors had swum the toughest event of them all beforehand, the 400m IM.  Megan had, and was rewarded, not only with a gold medal, but with a County Record to boot.

Anyone who stayed on to watch the last of the finals would have witnessed Hannah Bagley’s electrifying swim in the 12 years’ 50m breaststroke, in which she improved her fourth place in the heats to finish second.  Her silver was her first ever Counties medal – no doubt there’ll be many more to come. Congratulations to Hannah on a magnificent swim.

The Championships conclude this weekend with lots more events to contest and the final overall results to be decided.  Good luck to everyone.
