On Sunday 16th July 13 HHSC swimmers competed at the East Region Open Water Championships which doubled as the Hertfordshire County open water championships. The day saw some great racing, the lake was calm, the weather was generally fine except for some (heavy!) summer showers during the 5km race at the end of the day and no-one reported seeing any water snakes.
Regional silver medals were snapped up in their respective age categories by Chloe Purkis (1.5km), Jack Spence (3km), Jack Christie (800m) whilst Tony Gaines won bronze (5km).
In the county competition, Jack Spence is the Hertfordshire 3km open water champion. Chloe Purkis won the 1.5km, Jack Christie won the 800m and Kyle Holmes won the 1.5km all in their respective age groups. Sam Gaines won silver in the open, junior and age group 1.5km event with Jonny Farrow just ten second behind winning bronze in the same three categories. Cameron Clark won bronze in his age group in the 3km, Matt Rafiq-Craske won an age group silver in the 3km, and Alice Fender won an age group bronze in the 3km, also qualifying for the National Open Water Festival.
