Four swimmers from Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club ventured to Norwich this weekend to take part in the ASA East Region Winter Championships. As an open championship, the tough qualifying times are set for all age groups and to be fast enough to enter is an achievement in itself.
Breaststroke specialist Devon Prior qualified for three events and was amongst the youngest swimmers to make B finals in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke. Prior also came inside the top twenty in the 200m event.
Lois Moore was another three-time qualifier in her favoured stroke, the freestyle. She was just outside her PB in the 200m event. She succeeded in making it into the top forty in the 50m distance and made fiftieth spot in the 100m.
Sam Pigott was just outside his PB in the 50m freestyle, finishing in the top forty. He also posted forty-third in the 100m freestyle.
Tom Sherriff meanwhile made a quick splash in the 50m freestyle, just short of his PB, and one of the youngest competitors in the event.
As an early taster in the season, with swimmers not yet at their peak, the championships will provide insight into where improvements can be made and the swimmers will now be looking forward to their County prospects in March.
