There were some good results for swimmers from Hemel Hempstead who attended the Guildford Open meet last weekend.

In particular, Lucy Hutchins who took on the 400m freestyle at only 9 years’ old, was rewarded for a mature, well-paced race with a gold medal.  She also came third in the 200m IM, with a sixth place in the 200m freestyle.

Kyle Holmes was another young medallist.  Swimming in the boys’ 9 years age group, he took silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

Tim Warr managed 6th place in the 400m freestyle in the 13 year-old category.

Other top ten finishes went to Victoria Fisher, 12, who came ninth in the 200m IM and Paige Wilding, 10, who finished 7th in the 50m breaststroke and 10th in the 200m backstroke.

Peter Kennett, also 10, finished 8th in the boys’ 50m freestyle and 9th in the 200m breaststroke.

The meet was a useful opportunity for swimmers to gain county qualifying times and practice ahead of the Championships next March.
