Head Swimming Coach

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club, is seeking a passionate and committed Head Coach to lead and inspire swimmers, overseeing the club’s competitive swim programme and drive continued success at county, regional and national levels. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to join a community club, drive its expansion and help shape the club’s future.

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club is a Swim Mark accredited club based in Hertfordshire, with around 150 members in competitive squads, ranging from Swim England Level 6 to Masters level. We offer a balanced training programme, including early morning and evening sessions to allow swimmers to reach their full potential and progress through the club to the highest level. Inclusion is an integral part of our community and ethos, and the Head Coach will deliver a training programme to inspire swimmers at all levels. The Head Coach will lead a team of experienced coaches and be fully engaged across the club showing commitment, enthusiasm and ambition.

The club is run by a large team of volunteers, and we have an expanding team of gala officials. The Head Coach position is a genuine opportunity for the right individual to make their mark and join a friendly and welcoming team. We offer a competitive salary and are looking to appoint in September.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Work within a team to lead the club’s development, with both enthusiasm and ambition
  • Inspire swimmers of all abilities and show a passion for the role and the club’s future
  • Have experience of developing swimmers to regional and national levels
  • Engage with coaches, swimmers and parents with a positive attitude
  • Excellent communication, time management skills and a competent administrator

Responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of the aquatics development pathway, including provision and delivery of an annual training programme
  • Oversee squad management and drive development of all swimmers
  • Mentor and manage the coaching team, including regular communication and management of cover
  • Lead the coaching team and Team Managers at competitions
  • Align with the Fixtures Officer to plan an annual competition calendar
  • Engage on initiatives to enhance training sessions and encourage progression
  • Active engagement with the committee to ensure effective delivery of training and communication to all members
  • Liaise with parents on progression of swimmers
  • Represent the club as necessary to form good relations with the County, Region and neighbouring clubs

The Role

  • 25 hours/week training across all squads, plus attendance at competitions, coaching team management and administrative hours to support this
  • Circa £30,000 per annum according to experience and qualifications. An allowance for gala attendance.
  • The Head Coach will be employed under a contract for the provision of services and will not be an employee of the club as such

Qualifications:

  • Water Safety: RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)
  • Coaching Swimming: Swimming Coach Certificate or Level 2 Award
  • Coaching Swimming: Senior Swimming Coach Certificate or Level 3 Award
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Valid Swim England Safeguarding Certificate
  • Valid DBS Check
  • UK Driving License
