Hemel Masters Continue Their Good Form

A group of 7 Masters and Senior swimmers travelled to Sheffield on 25th – 27th October to compete in the National Masters and Senior Age Group (18-24) Swimming Championships.

The team produced some great performances and many Personal Best Times, leading the way was Annette Thatcher (61) who won Gold in the 50m Freestyle and no less than 5 Silver medals in the 100m Individual Medley, 50 and 100m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke, many of Annette’s swims would have won medals in younger age groups.

Jo Lee-Pearce (37) a former National Swimmer performed brilliantly despite nursing a shoulder injury just missing the medals with a 4th place in the 200m Backstroke, she followed that up with top 6 placings in the 200m Individual medley and 100m Backstroke, she also produced top 10 finishes in the 100m Individual medley and 50m Breaststroke.

Rachel Barber (24) was making her debut at this level producing a top 10 finishe in the 50m Breaststroke as well as the 50m Backstroke, she also competed in the 50m Fly (17th) and 100m Freestyle (23rd).

Matthew Rafiq-Craske (42) was also making his debut at National Level with some solid swims in the 200m Individual medley (10th), the 200m Freestyle (17th), 100m Individual Medley (22nd) and 50m Butterfly (27th)

Kira Doyle (18) was swimming in the very competitive Senior Age Group producing two top 10 finishes in her favoured 50m and 100m Breaststroke events, she also competed in the 100m Freestyle (11th) and 50m Butterfly (25th).

Paul Mackie (20) is the coach for the Masters Group and also a former National Swimmer, swam in the 50m Butterfly (40th) and in the 100m Freestyle where he swam his fastest time for three years finishing 24th.

Alexandra Hatt (19) a team member who has recently started her degree, was competing for   Loughborough University, won a Bronze Medal in the 50m Breaststroke as well as a Silver Relay medal in the Ladies 4 x 50m Medley Relay.
