Sunday 17th November saw three of Hemel’s Senior and Masters Swimmers represent Hertfordshire in the East Region Inter Counties Competition. Rachel Barber (25) Kira Doyle (18), and Paul Mackie (20) travelled to Newmarket for a closely contested gala where Hertfordshire finished 2nd behind Essex by only 2 points.
Rachel swam the backstroke in the 72+ Medley Relay coming 3rd, and in the victorious 100+ Freestyle relay, Kira sawm in the 18+ 50m Breaststroke taking 2nd place, she was also a member of the 72+ medley relay team and was part of the victorious 72+ freestyle relay team. Paul swam in the 72+ medley relay team taking 5th place, the victorious 100+ freestyle relay, the individual 50m Butterfly taking 5th place and the victorious 72+ Freestyle Relay Team.
For all three swimmers this was the first time they have represented the County, they had a bonus of swimming with Beijing 2008 Olympian Richard Charlesworth who is a Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club old boy and was also representing Hertfordshire.
