Congratulations to Charlie Rayner and Georgia Purkis who represented Hertfordshire at the Junior Inter County Gala on 8th February at Luton’s 50m pool against top swimmers from Suffolk, Lincs, Essex, Beds and Leics, helping Herts secure a strong 2nd place in the gala behind Essex.

Charlie broke two of Hemel’s long course club records winning the 100 butterfly in a time of 1.04.90 and finishing a close 2nd in the 100m breaststroke in 1.14.21. He also swam a 33 second breaststroke leg in the winning 13yr old boys medley relay team, along with a freestyle leg in the mixed freestyle relay and finished the day with a 27.20 second freestyle leg in a closely contested squadron relay which saw Herts finish a close 3rd.

Georgia competed in a tough 100m freestyle and finished 3rd in a time of 1.07.55. She stormed through the first 50m and was rewarded with a long course pb to accompany her brilliant swim in the mixed relay for 12yr olds.

Both swimmers are training hard for the forthcoming county championships in March and Regional Champs in May and performed brilliantly at the gala despite being in a heavy training block.
