Below is a statement from the Herts Major League explaining how the league will be run for 2010 after the recent cancellation of Round 1 on 09-01-10 due to snow
MAJOR LEAGUE 2010 – MOVING ON
As you are aware, the recent inclement weather meant we needed to cancel the 1st Round of the Hertfordshire Swimming League – Major League competition. This was not a decision the committee reached without a considerable amount of thought.
Having cancelled the galas we then needed to look at a way forward for the competition – reschedule? run a 2 round competition? Or something else. We have no rules for such a situation. Rescheduling would be extremely difficult given clubs competition diaries and the lack of available weekend, running a 2 round competition would not really be very satisfactory, so we have come up with an alternative which we feel is the best way to deal with the situation we are in.
We intend to run a virtual 2nd round which will give teams a chance to be scored against other teams in their divisions. This will work as follows:
The draw for Round 1 stands as is for Round 2 – The exception being the Potters Bar gala which moves to Herts Sports Village. As per the attached Round 2 invite, host clubs also remain the same.
On completion of the gala host clubs must scan the results and email them to me either on the night or on the Sunday following the gala. Hard copies should also be sent as normal.
The gala results will be scored as normal.
The Results Officer will then make a “virtual draw” for Round 2 (A Gala teams 1,3 & 5 play B Gala teams 2,4 & 6) for Divs. 1 and 2 as per normal.
The results of EACH event in Round 1 will then be transcribed into the Round 2 draw and the result of that gala worked out and scored accordingly.
Unfortunately, Div. 3 will score the same for both galas.
Once the “virtual” 2nd round galas have been worked out the normal split will be made for Round 3 (Top 6 Winners gala and Bottom 6 Consolation gala) and invitations will be issued as normal.
Hopefully that is pretty clear, and given the circumstances we find ourselves in the Committee feel this is the best way to proceed.
TIMES are obviously crucial for this to work – if you have No Time Recorded it will seriously affect your performance in the virtual gala. We would therefore ask ALL clubs in Divisions 1 and 2 to provide 2 timekeepers so you have a backup – this could be your coach/team manager and will only be used if the timekeeper misses a time.
