Herts Major League 2011 Rnd 2

09/02/20110

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club enjoyed another outstanding night in the second round of the Herts Major League with two teams each claiming second place in their respective galas.

The Blue Team scored 26 top three finishes. One win went to Megan Pirrie in the u12 breaststroke, with Pirrie scoring two further PBs.  Aimee Abrey was another three-time PB setter.  Her performances on the night, which included swimming up in the u16 girls 100m backstroke whilst still under-14, won her the accolade of Swimmer of the Gala.

Other notable performances came from Joshua Coulson whose first-time show in the Blue Team saw him PB-in in the u14 100m butterfly.

The under-16 girls foursome of Lois Moore, Devon Prior, Rebecca Hopper and Kelsey Doyle worked hard all night with each required to swim up in the Open category as well as their own.

Lauren Wilding stepped in at the last minute to help the team finish off in style in the 8×50 squadron.

The Red Team meanwhile looked equally impressive with 33 top three finishes.

Swimmer of the Gala went to Lawrence Hall who came close to tipping under the minute mark on his 100m freestyle and whose technique in the turns saw him gain ground to finish in third place.

Thushira Kumarage posted two first places in the u12 breaststroke and u12 butterfly.

The u16 boys relay team of Oliver Ayres, Robert Sizeland, Conrad Bier-Allen and Charles Cox proved unbeatable in both their races.

Molly McLoughlin showed guts and determination battling to the end of her u14 butterfly race despite choking half way. She went on to post third in the 100m freestyle.

With one round still to go, the Red Team has all to play for as they stand a chance of promotion and joining their Blue compatriots in the top division for next season.
