HHSC’s Masters competed in the Hertfordshire Senior League on Saturday 29th November. The team put in a sound performance with 15 personal best times.
The women were in particularly strong form, producing top three finishes in every individual race.
Pam Ware won the 35+ 50m breaststroke, coming third in the 50m butterfly. There were individual second places for Adi Monger in the 25+ 50m freestyle, Sian MacDonald in the 25+ 50m breaststroke and Hilary Coulson, who came from Berkhamstead Sports Centre SC to support the Hemel swimmers, in the 35+ 50m backstroke.
Lynne Moore made her debut for the club, bringing her team home in second place with two solid freestyle performances in the relays.
The men’s team was somewhat depleted due to illness and absence, forcing some to compete in their weaker strokes (the dreaded 50m backstroke for Mark Ayres and Dave Pirrie!) and to swim down age groups (a distinct disadvantage at Masters level).
Andrew Power, however, put in some consistently fast times in his debut appearance for the club, in the freestyle relays and the individual 50m freestyle, finishing off with his best time of the evening in the 180+ mixed free relay.
