Megan Pirrie competed in four events over three days last weekend at the prestigious ASA Summer Wales National Championships.
The competition at this high level meet is extremely tough and Megan, still 10, was swimming in the 10-11 age group. The events open to her from Friday-Sunday included some gruelling long distance work too.
Megan showed her proficiency in all four strokes when she took on the 400m Individual Medley and posted 13th spot. She was also, impressively, the second fastest 10 year-old.
Another of Pirrie’s strengths lies in long distance, as she proved in the 800m freestyle where she again finished 13th and was the third fastest 10 year-old.
A solid breaststroke technique saw her finishing 25th in the 200m breaststroke with a personal best time which made her third fastest again in the 10 year category.
Finally, Megan swam the 200m freestyle to finish in 36th spot, sixth out of all the other 10 year girls.
The Welsh Nationals is the icing on the cake at the end of a great season for Megan which also saw her finish in the top ten at BAGCATs in the Eastern Region Championships and second overall in the Herts County Championship BAGCATs awards.
Well done Megan and best of luck for the 2010/11 season.
