Club buys new competition lane ropes
We have today taken delivery of an early 100th birthday present – our new “competition” lane ropes! These are bigger than the current ones and are the same size as those used in the Olympics.
As with all good presents, we haven’t used your money to buy them! We’ve been very fortunate to receive a Hertfordshire County Council Locality Budget grant of £1,000 from local County Councillor Terry Douris together with a significant anonymous donation, both specifically for the purchase of new lane ropes. These have been added to the money raised from all your hard work bag packing at Christmas, running raffles at competitions and the profits from social events which we squirrel away into a special fund for this type of one-off purchase.
All of which means that in addition to the new lanes, we’ve also been able to use the same special fund to purchase a trolley on which to store the big yellow timing pads we use for competitions, and still have a chunk of money left over for our next target – new starting blocks.
