“Never in the field of peanuts swimming has so much been swum by so few in the presence of so many”. Team Manager, Mark Bagley, reports on the final round for the Whites.
…It was a very depleted Hemel White Team who turned up at a packed Borehamwood pool for the final round of the Peanuts League last Saturday. Facing them were at least 2 first teams from other clubs and several 2nd teams.
For some it was their first ever gala, but after a rousing team talk at the start, everyone rose to the challenge ahead. At least half the team were not only down to compete in their own age group, but also the age group above. Such was the pressure.
And what a great gala we had. All swimmers swam as if it was their last. Hemel led many of the races, only to fall back near the end as the first teams and title contenders came through. Hemel’s swimmers kept pace with the pack for almost all the races and the end result is not a true reflection of the effort and commitment shown by the team.
As Team Manager for the last two galas I know how proud the other coaches, parents and helpers are of our White team who, in the face of adversity, can still stand with the best.
A big thank you goes out to all the coaches, helpers, parents and, of course, the swimmers in making the Peanut Galas so enjoyable.
