Last year HHSC challenged swimmers and members of the public to compete in a 24-hour charity swim in aid of charity.
After much organising, on the 15-16th December, from 3pm on the 15th to 3pm on the 16th, Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club ran the 24-hour swim at the Sportspace pool in Hemel to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis and the Iain Rennie Hospice. Swimmers competed in teams of five, swimming one length (25 metres) at a time in one-hourly slots across the 24 hours.
The results were amazing! All in all we managed to raise £4,500 pounds for both hospices and our aim of crossing the Channel and back in the time was completed by about 8am on Sunday morning. In fact, in the whole 24 hours we covered 96,100 metres, only 5000 metres short of getting all the way back to France again!
HHSC would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to support this event, including sponsors Sportspace, Balloon Fantasia, Kallkwick and Birthdays who kept our costs to a minimum.
