Megan Pirrie and Emily Jelfs travelled to Swansea to compete in the Welsh Summer Nationals from 27th to 30th of July 2013, they joined over 147 competing clubs from Wales, Scotland and England for some fast competitive swimming.
Megan swam in a number of events across the meet starting with 50m FC in 30.69 which was a PB and followed that up with 100m Butterfly qualifying for the final where she won a bronze medal, Butterfly is fast becoming Megan’s strongest event having won a Silver Medal at the East Region Championship in June for 200m butterfly, due to the length of the meet Megan was unable to stay and compete in the 200m event. She also did well in the 50m Butterfly sprint event finishing 9th just missing the final.
Megan’s strength and all round ability showed in the tough 400 Individual medley event where she finished 5th in 5.33.57 she followed that up with 10th place in the shorter 200 IM event finishing in 10th place. in the 100m Breaststroke event Megan qualified for the final finishing in 8th place, this was particularly impressive as she had also competed in the 400m Freestyle event shortly before the final with a Personal best time of 4.59.43
Emily faced some tough competition as at 14 she was bottom of the 14/15 year old age group so was competing against swimmers considerably older than her.
Emily swam in the 200IM with a time of 2.44.62 finishing in 42nd place, in the 400m Freestyle she finished 44th in 5.08.94 with her final event being the 100m Backstroke where she finished with a time of 1.19.52 this was some valuable experience for Emily competing with swimmers she does not normally swim against and should help her with the coming season.
Well done to both girls for representing the club so well.
