Five Hemel Swimmers Competed at the East of England Youth Regional Champs in early May at Luton’s new 50m pool.
The East of England Region consists of six counties – Beds, Herts, Essex, Cambs, Norfolk and Suffolk and Tom Sherriff, Matt Sherriff, Freddie Woodcock, Hannah Bagley and Sam Pigott all qualified to represent Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club at this high level competition.
Boys Club Captain Tom Sherriff lead the way with top placings of 10th in the 200 Freestyle 2.03.87, 400 Freestyle 4.29.56 (9th), 50 Freestyle 26.24 (26th), 100 Freestyle 56.66 (22nd), 50 Breast 35.05 (23rd) and 50 Fly 29.10 (38th).
Younger brother and deputy boys captain Matt Sherriff swam in the 15year old age group achieving an array of personal best times. His times were 50m freestyle 26.82 (30th), 100 Freestyle 58.75 (35th), 200 Freestyle 2.09.50 (34th) and 50 Fly 29.41 (34th).
Freddie Woodcock swam brilliant personal best times in the 50 freestyle 26.84 (31st), 100 Freestyle 58.44 (29th), 50 Back 31.25(19th), 100 Back 1.06.44 (29th) and also a great time in the 200 Back 2.24.73 (26th).
Hannah Bagley competed fiercely in two events – the 50m Breaststroke in a time of 39,41(19th) and 100m Breaststroke 1.28.05 (20th).
Sam Pigott had two great swims in the 50m Freestyle 26.10 (24th) and 50m Fly 28.96 (36th).
The 4×100 Medley Relay team of Freddie, Tom, Sam and Matt swam a magnificent 4.25.71 to place 8th overall in the Region. The 4x100m freestyle relay was equally impressive with the same four achieving 9th place overall in a time of 3.52.47.
Following all the swimmer’s successes at the Hertfordshire County Championships in March they all stepped up to Regional level with pride and represented Hemel Hempstead with some fast swimming and determination.
